One of the things that people have been asking for is the ability to compare themselves only to the folks most like them. We’ve listened and here’s our solution … you can now filter your MyCake benchmark results according to quite a wide variety of elements of the profile. In particular you can now:
- filter by sector … so if you’re a film and TV production firm you can compare to just this crowd, or a jeweller might want to see how they stack up versus only other jewellers or versus the wider designer maker crowd
- filter by type of business … if you’re a limited company it might well make more sense to cut out all the sole trader data we hold and only look at other limited companies, certainly if you’re a non-profit there would be much to learn by looking first at your peer non-profit crowd even if you then go on to compare against a more commercial crowd (definitely interesting learning there also!)
- filter by VAT status … this is of course a proxy for the size of the business … under £55k vs. over £55k
- filter by those firms with a book-keeper … mostly this is also a proxy for size and scale of the business
How do you make use of this?
In the top left hand corner of the graphical results interface you’ll now see a button called ‘Cut me a Slice’
If you click on this you’ll be able to pick the sorts of filter you’re after from the drop down menu:
Once you’ve made your choices then click on Get Results and use the benchmark as normal. You might want to print off some of the pages (perhaps the spreadsheet) so that you can compare different scenarios.
Remember – if you ever want more help working your way around the benchmark (or indeed the book-keeping) you can book one of a range of support calls from phone support (starting at £20 a call) to London based face to face coaching & business development with MyCake founder Sarah Thelwall (£100 for a one hour session or £250 for a 2-3 hour session).
